Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about pricing, ownership, scheduling and how long-term projects work.

What is included with each song?

Every song includes 12 studio hours and 3 revision rounds.

How much does a song cost?

The base price is your chosen hourly rate times 12 included hours. Rates run from $35 to $65 per hour, so a single song is $420 to $780 before any package discount. Packages of 5, 10 and 15 songs take 5%, 10% and 15% off.

What is the difference between the lower and higher rates?

A lower rate reduces your upfront cost and Deck Space Records keeps a retained interest in the song. A higher rate costs more up front and reduces that interest, reaching full artist ownership at the top rate. The exact terms for each rate are in the onboarding guide and your agreement.

What is billed separately?

Studio time beyond the included 12 hours (extra hours cost extra), revisions beyond the included 3 rounds, third-party mixing or mastering not expressly included, beat licences, producer fees, sample clearances, and costs such as artwork, video, advertising, distribution and release administration. We agree extras with you before billing them.

Do I keep my live show income?

Yes. You keep 100% of your live show income.

What happens if a payment is late?

Payments follow the plan in your agreement, and a short grace period may be offered. Final masters, stems or release-ready files may be held until the account is current.

Can I buy out the retained interest later?

Yes. The agreement includes a separate buyout clause. Ordinary project payments do not count toward a buyout.

Can I book just one song, or an hourly session?

Yes to both. A single song is a one-song project at the base price with no package discount. Hourly sessions are $60 per hour.

Are mixing and mastering included?

Mixing and mastering are built into long-term projects. For one-off work they are quoted with the project.

Do prices include GST?

Prices are in Canadian dollars. GST is charged on all services starting in 2027.

Where do you work with artists from?

The studio is in Kelowna and we work with artists across the Okanagan, including West Kelowna, Westbank, Peachland, Lake Country, Vernon, Summerland and Penticton.

Which software do you use?

Pro Tools and Ableton Live 12.

What should I prepare before a session?

Rehearse the song, settle the arrangement, and send reference tracks. Our session checklist covers the rest.
