Recording cost guide

How Deck Space Records prices a project, what is included, and how to avoid surprises.

Priced per song, not by the clock

Instead of an open-ended hourly bill, each song has a clear base price: your chosen hourly rate times 12 included studio hours. Every song also includes 3 revision rounds.

What packages save

Committing to more songs lowers the price per song: 5% off for 5 songs, 10% for 10, and 15% for 15.

What is not included

  • Extra studio time beyond 12 hours, and extra revisions beyond 3 rounds
  • Third-party mixing or mastering
  • Beat licences, producer fees, sample clearances
  • Artwork, video, advertising, distribution and release costs

How to keep a project on budget

  • Rehearse first. Studio hours go further when parts are learned.
  • Settle the arrangement. Decide structure and tempo before tracking.
  • Bring references. A few tracks that show the sound you want save time.
  • Consolidate revision notes. One clear list per round beats many small requests.
  • Plan the whole release. Packages reward committing to the full body of work.

Hourly sessions

Prefer to book by the hour? Sessions are $60 per hour.

Prices are in Canadian dollars. GST is charged on all services starting in 2027.

Rates also set how ownership is shared. Lower rates mean a lower upfront cost and a retained interest for the studio; the top rate means full artist ownership. Read how it works.
